A LITTLE STORY FROM ME TO YOU
BY KATARIINA PRINZ
I once saw on a home video made by my German grandfather, I was around 5 years of age when I was creating clothes with a big needle in my little hands, and my sister Alexandra as the model and muse. I always loved running around and being creative doing anything. My enthusiasm with fashion in particular started when I created my two first Ready-to-wear collections at the age of 14 and 15. With both collections I organised several fashion shows. I loved directing the whole creative process of putting together a show that explained the vision and story of my collections. When attending Junior High School in Finland, I got to do my very first internship in the atelier of the fashion company Muotikuu Oy at the age of 14 in my home town, and then a year later, I did an internship at the NRJ Fashion Awards in Helsinki helping the management in organising the fashion awards. With my family we have lived several times in China and there, at the age of 16 and 17 I used the chance to intern in a mass clothes manufacture in the South as well as in a five-star luxury hotel.

Not long after that, I quickly found myself in Paris doing my first internship at Maison Lesage in June 2013 when I was 18 years old. It was an unreal dream for me to see the incredible haute couture embroideries in front of my own eyes. And what was even more incredible, was that I got to participate in the CHANEL FW13 Haute Couture collection. It was my first peek into the creativity of haute couture and fashion in Paris. I continued my summer in the South of France, in Saint Tropez working for Giorgio Armani as a Junior Sales Associate and learning about the business side of fashion. The next year, when I was 19 years old and I had finished high school, I returned to Maison Lesage for a second internship. After talking with the direction of Lesage, I was convinced I wanted to go study Fashion Design and Creation in ESMOD Paris.
Anyhow, before entering the renowned fashion school, I took a little detour in Switzerland. An incredible detour, finally working as a sales associate at the historic Haute Horlogerie boutique OMEGA to finance my studies independently. Not only did this extrodinary time in Geneva give me access to ESMOD Paris, but it gave me a real profound insight into the business domain of luxury; from two-hour conversations with clients about the beauty, design, history and craftmanship of the watches, to realizing how the most incredible design and details of art can be found in the smallest of pieces, like the dial of a watch.

After almost three years of learning and working in Switzerland, it was finally time for me to go to Paris. In autumn 2017, I started my long-dreamt studies of fashion design. At ESMOD Paris I had the chance to do my Bachelor in two years because I already had a good amount of experience. During the final year I entered the class specializing in Haute Couture, I won the LESAGE Embroidery Prize and graduated as a Fashion Designer with the Valedictorian honor award '' Prix Majeur ''.

Anyhow, the prize that I had been longing for since years, was about to come. Later that autumn 2019, I got a confirmation for my internship at CHANEL. It was a dream come true. In October 2019, I entered the Haute Couture atelier at Rue Cambon, and what I realized during my internship, is that I truly got to learn about the secrets of haute couture. To my great surprise, my internship at the atelier was prolonged, and after that, I was proposed my very first work contract at the house of CHANEL. So, in January 2020, as a couturière of the haute couture atelier I had the honor of realizing a white blouse for the Spring Summer 2020 Haute Couture collection by Virginie Viard. As the year unfolded with the pandemic, I safely enjoyed my work experience at CHANEL in Paris and continued to work on the Fall-Winter 2020/21 Haute Couture collection.

The experiences that I've had with my little career till now are truly wonderful. All along while studying and working in these amazing companies, I've had my namesake label beside me since I was 15 years old, and like many other creative young people and students, I slowly but surely bring forwards my brand with creations that I hope will bring joy and inspiration to others.
None of these beautiful experiences till now would have ever been possible, without the support and love of my family, friends and relatives. And of course, a hint of my own ambition and passion for the creative luxury and fashion industry.

So what's going on now? Well, I will only say stay tuned.
And - work on something that you love. -
